Pair Antique Italian Neoclassical Burl Walnut and Maple Inlay Chest of Drawers circa 1830

A pair of exceptional antique Italian burl walnut with maple inlay chests of drawers circa 1830. The Neoclassical styling of this pair of antique chests provides a marvelous framework for the organic pattern achieved by the use of highly figured burl walnut timber. Please enlarge all of the photographs to see the details that give these chests their superb quality. Each chest in this pair was designed to be seen from every direction so the top, front and both sides are sheathed in the most desirable burl walnut available in the early nineteenth century. In addition the four straight tapered legs also feature the same level of well chosen burl walnut to achieve a consistency of both design and visual splendor. To add to the overall extravagance of details formed by the natural grain of the burl walnut there is a subtle and symmetrical pattern of inlaid satinwood whose pale color complements the dramatic walnut while adding another layer of luxurious refinement. The three drawers are set within a recessed frame to enclose their shape and each open with a separate key. The top of each chest is defined by a wide border of matched walnut on all four sides with a geometric rigor enclosing a generous section of figured walnut with an organic pattern different from the burl walnut seen elsewhere on the chests. It is extremely rare to discover two matched chests of such superior artisanal skill and we are delighted to offer these wonderful examples of antique design and craftsmanship suitable for modern use.
