Pair of Antique English George II Brass Pricket Candlesticks England circa 1740

This pair of antique English brass pricket candlesticks from England circa 1740 is solid and substantial. The candlesticks each have a large circular bobeche (the dish beneath the candle nozzle) designed to capture dripping wax when a candle is lit. The circular stems were cast to resemble turned timber and to provide a multitude of reflective surfaces when kept brightly polished. This type of candlestick resembles those of Dutch origin known as "Heemskerk" after the town in Holland where this design originated.
