Pair of Arts and Crafts Period Antique English Brass Candlesticks England circa 1885

These antique English Arts and Crafts period candlesticks England circa 1885 have a four sided pyramid base that sets them apart from the more usual circular shape usually seen and reflect their origin as being from the late nineteenth century. Each candlestick has a square base that is raised at each corner with a quarter circle support. All four sides of the square base have a slight lip before the sides slant up a sharp angle to reach a smaller square that supports the central circular column. The column has an attractive variety of turned rings, flat areas and shaped sections that alternate in a balanced and pleasing manner. The candle nozzle at the top of each candlestick has a wide lip with an inward curving shape to capture any dripping wax while a candle is burning. The beautiful burnished surface of the brass has a highly reflective quality with the large flat sections being especially brilliant. These are a lovely pair of candlesticks both to enrich a table top whether a candle is lit in them or as intriguing objects on their own.
