Pair of Antique French Iron Boot Pulls France circa 1860

A pair of antique French iron boot pulls with bone handles from France circa 1860. These boot pulls were an essential implement of a gentleman's dressing closet in the nineteenth century. Each pull is shaped with a flat iron hook at the end designed to slip through the loop of leather at the top of a long boot. When secured through the loop the pull could draw the skin tight boot up the leg easily while remaining seated. The bone cylinder on each pull has a pair of ring turned engraved lines that frame the iron shaft with an indented circular line on each end. The bone has been shaped as well with a slight curved surface on both sides of the cylinder that flanks the iron handle. These are beautiful artifacts from an earlier era that retain a mysterious allure as objects in and of themselves.
