Pair of Antique Dutch Arm Two Arm Bronze Sconces circa 1910

A pair of two arm antique Dutch sconces circa 1910 retaining their original dark bronze finish. These are the classic Dutch style sconces originally seen in the late sixteenth-early seventeenth centuries in Holland. The style traveled to England and America along with the Dutch people who emigrated. The use of brass was important for two reasons-it was inflammable and therefore safe to use with candles and it could be polished increasing the amount of light reflected. These sconces may be used with candles and may also be electrified and hard wired into the wall. The boldly scrolled arms support a large bobeche that is used for dripping candle wax. The bold scale of these sconces is quite impressive and the metal may be plated or painted to fit the design of an interior.
