Pair of Vintage English George III Style Cut Glass Sconces England circa 1940
A pair of vintage English George III style four arm cut glass sconces set with a nickel frame circa 1940. Please look at the elegant profile of these sconces that follow the original eighteenth century examples but with a modern simplicity that is quite appealing. The circular metal backplate supports the horizontal framework from which the four hollow glass arms curve forward and away from the wall. All four of the arms have a circular bobeche (the etched glass cup originally used to capture dripping candle wax) affixed with six vertical cut crystal prisms chosen to both reflect and refract the light. Of course this was supremely important when sconces held true candles and the amplification of light was the goal of any lighting fixture. These particular sconces have been rewired and are ready to be installed by a qualified electrician. Each candle arm is fitted with a socket for a candelabra base bulb up to twenty five watts each. The essential sparkle and glamour of these sconces will add a tremendous amout of interest to an interior and their nickel colour is definitely in keeping with today's decorating objective of a natural monochromatic appearance. We have two sets of a pair each making a total of four sconces which is quite rare. They are offered in sets of two each as individual pairs and the price is $2844 for each pair. Please see our stock number EFG731B for the other pair.
