Pair Vintage Louis XV Walnut Chairs circa 1920 Original Leather Upholstery

This pair of vintage French Louis XV chairs circa 1920 retains the original black leather upholstery embellished with hand tooled gilt detailing. These gorgeous chairs exactly follow the proportions of the original Louis XV fauteuils (armchairs) created during the reign of King Louis XV in France (1723-1774). Please enlarge the photographs to follow the impeccably proportions of these chairs that have been considered perfect for over 250 years. The deeply carved grooves emphasize the sensuous lines of these French chairs and provide a fascinating play of light and shadow across the entire frame. Covered in the original black leather upholstery with a reflective finish note how the hand tooling line of gilded motifs follow the outline of the both the back and seat. This subtle decorative detailing is an original detail utilized in the eighteenth century to add glamor to upholstered chairs. Gilding leather originated in Renaissance Italy and quickly spread to royal courts across Europe. These chairs have subtle traces of a washed finish still visible in the deep crevices. Superbly comfortable with deep seats and a slanted back these chairs will be suitable for a wide variety of interiors.
