Pair Vintage French White Ceramic "Oyster" Plates Maker's Stamp on Reverse France circa 1900
A set of two vintage French oyster plates of glazed earthenware from France circa 1910. Please notice the makers stamp "Pillivuyt" on the reverse side. These plates reflect the traditional desire of all French people to indulge in the annual harvest of delicious oysters served on the half shell. The circular well in the centre of each plate contained sauce while each of the six shell shaped sections around the perimeter held an individual oyster in its shell. Now the wonderfully graphic quality of the white with its shallow sculptural surface makes them ideal for display.
