Set Three Antique Caldas Portuguese Palissy Lobster Plates circa 1890

This set of three graduated size antique Portuguese Palissy lobster plates from Caldas circa 1890 are fascinating objects. Inspired by the creations of Bernard Palissy, a Frenchman, who invented a process of brilliantly glazed ceramics and became famous for his depictions of the natural world. Each of these lobsters are fully lifelike and centred within each plate. Please enlarge the photographs to see the details in closeup including the seashells and sand all beautifully captured by the skilled potters of Caldas. The dimensions of the largest platter are listed and the other two plates measure 10" in diameter x 3" high and 7 1/2" dimensions by 2 1/2" high.
