Two Large Antique French Cast Iron Phoenix Birds circa 1880

This pair of tall cast iron Phoenix birds are antique French circa 1880 and originally graced the entry to a lavish garden. The legend of the Phoenix bird appears in Greek mythology as associated with Sun and who rises from the ashes to live again. The marvelous lifelike details on these birds is a tribute to the artist as they were designed to be seen from every angle. Please enlarge the photographs to see each Phoenix bird in closeup. One side of a beak is missing as seen in the photograph due to the long life of these architectural salvage elements. We wouid so enjoy meeting the persons responsible for the creation of these Phoenix birds!
