Modern French Steel Table Glass Top France circa 1975

A modern French steel table of unusual design topped with a sheet of glass France circa 1975. Please use the zoom feature on our website to see the subtle distinctions that set this table apart from more usual examples. Firstly each leg is actually oval in shape and is set at a forty five degree angle to the table top to create an intriguing optical illusion. On each side there is is crossed "X" shape structural addition that appears to be blown inward from the outside that echoes the oval shape of the legs. The front legs are connected to the back legs on each side at both the top and bottom with a curved half moon shaped piece of steel and this is where the vertical "X" shape strap work is also attached. The difference in scale between the legs and the flattened profile of the connecting strips sets up an interesting visual contrast that gives the table its unique character. The simple piece of glass on the top appears to float above the table and transforms it into a functional and durable piece of furniture that will add a modern dash to any interior.
