Vintage French Painted Iron Floor Lamp France circa 1920

This vintage French painted iron floor lamp from France circa 1920 was originally a candlestand that has now been wired for American electricity. The centre square iron rod has been forged into a ribbon twist shape on the upper section beneath the rounded cup known as a "bobeche". When a lit candle dripped wax the bobeche captured the melted wax before it could fall onto the floor. Now the bobeche cradles the stem where the light bulb is affixed. The base of the lamp has four iron supports arranged in a series of decorative motifs with the lowest supports providing stability and the others arranged in a pleasing fashion around the square iron column. The combination of open curved scrolls and four individual flowers on the horizontal iron band that encircles the base is quite pleasing and gives an individuality to the floor lamp that a reproduction can never equal.   Base- 13" square
