Vintage Italian Vittorio Dassi Oval Table Maple Glass circa 1950

A truly one of a kind vintage Italian oval maple table attributed to Vittorio Dassi circa 1950 having a reverse painted glass top. Please enlarge the photographs to see the unique details that give this table its connection with these famous Italian designers from the mid twentieth century. Take a look at the strikingly sculptural legs with their biomorphic profile. They are joined by a brass stretcher and retain their original brass feet at the base of each leg utilized to provide protection from errant kicks. Note the curve of the stretchers designed to accommodate chairs and the change in scale from broad to slender. The top is extremely rare as it is a solid oval piece of oval glass painted on the underside with a fanciful scroll along the perimeter along with a pale gray reflective color across the entire underside. Because the glass top is painted using a technique call "reverse painting" the top remains perfectly smooth and the painted decoration remains perfect as it has had no wear over time. Even the side of the maple table top is highlighted with three slender ribbons in a contrasting color as seen in the photographs. Whether used as a dining table or an imcomparably stylish writing table desk this is a unique example of Italian design and craftsmanship.
