Vintage Italian Neoclassical Giltwood Six Light Chandelier circa 1920

This handsome Neoclassical vintage Italian giltwood chandelier circa 1920 has superb details. Please enlarge the photographs to view the myriad details of this Italian lighting fixture. The central column has three sides to it with each side distinguished by a swag of foliage above a vertical design of overlapping fish scales sometimes known as a guilloche pattern. There are two arms that face each side of the column and they have a square profile in keeping with the Neoclassical styling. The base of the giltwood chandelier has a vase shape with an artichoke finial sweeping upward to a pattern of encircling lotus fronds with an upper row of acanthus leaves. All of these design elements were taken directly from the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome and incorporated into designs in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This Italian chandelier has been rewired for US electricity and each of the six arms will accommodate a chandelier base bulb.
