Vintage Modern Italian Travertine Brass Console Table circa 1970

A splendid vintage modern Italian travertine and brass console table circa 1975. The perfect vertical and horizontal lines of the hand made "Rosso di Serpia" top and pedestals are separated by a set of four brass spheres. The contrast between the gleam of the man made brass orbs and the matte finish of the organic natural travertine is visually striking. Please be sure to enlarge the photographs to see in closeup the details that give this Italian console table its allure. Interstingly this entire table disassembles for ease of transport and placement. The top lifts off of the pair of pedestals while the four brass spheres are secured by bolts which unscrew to be removed. The two pedestals are separate pieces and have a specific left and right orientation. No worries about placing this anywhere in an interior because of this attention to detail when this modern console table was designed and manufactured. We have never seen anything like it and believe it was a one off commission for a private residence. Travertine is a natural material like marble and granite and for centuries Italy had the monopoly on production. In fact, the area west of Rome known as Tivoli is famous for its travertine quarries.
